Portrait of Aries the Cat

Aries the Cat is now in week two of the Royal Canin Cats Aging Gracefully Challenge. Given all the positive changes so far, it's no wonder that Royal Canin is the leading cat food for mature cats.

Last week, I wrote about her improved appetite and digestion so this week, I thought that I would focus on her appearance and energy levels.

Royal Canin #CatsAgingGracefully Challenge Starts with Success!

Aries The Cat is my first grown-up pet. Or should I say, I'm her first servant.

The past 17 years have been wonderful and she looks better than most 84-year old ladies! However, there's no denying that she's aged.

When I heard about the Royal Canin Aging Gracefully Challenge, I knew that she deserved to live out the rest of her life in luxury with Royal Canin!

Since beginning the transition around two weeks ago, Aries has had so many successes! Most importantly, her appetite has increased significantly and her digestion has improved.

Just a fancy saying for her poo looks better.

All-Natural @LitterGetter Keeps Odours Away {#Giveaway} US/CAN, 5/30

Litter Getter Logo and Product
Aries The Cat turned 17-years old last month. That's around 3,789,324 human years.

While she hasn't had issues with not using her litter box, since we moved it, we now notice the smell.

When I heard about this product that states it helps keep your house odour-free and litter train cats, I wanted to tell you about it.

Litter Getter "The All Natural Litter Training Solution".

What is Litter Getter? Litter Getter is an all-natural mixture of herbs and plant extracts designed to bring problem cats back to the litter box and assist in training kittens.

It keeps the house smelling better by neutralizing ammonia-related odor by the inclusion of a yaccu extract. It also clumps with the cat litter making cleanup easier and is not harmful to people or pets.

The product looks and smells exactly as it should... a natural mixture of herbs. A pleasant tinge of sweetness was also present. I started with a fresh and full box of clumping litter and mixed in the recommended 1/4 bottle dose of Litter Getter (1/8 of the bottle for maintenance).

Four days later, and it still didn't smell bad. Yes, I put my head in her litter box. No, I didn't clean it for four days.

This fresh smell is exactly what we were going for as her litter box is in a high traffic area (the bathroom). It also appears to have kept down some of the dust that used to be floating around. Seeing as Ed has a lot of allergies, this is a great added benefit.

Just as I was putting her litter box in it's place, she started to use it so I had to run for my camera. Then I ran out of battery power stopped it to protect her modesty.

As you can see, she didn't hesitate or have any problems with using her new environment. That's great considering cats can sometimes be resistant to change.

Based on the recommended dosage, the bottle should last several months. Even longer if I clean it out regularly like I normally do.

Love your Cat? Feed them Feline Greenies SMARTBITES {Review}

SmartBites Logo When we returned from the first leg of our summer vacation, I was excited to see a box of Feline Greenies SMARTBITES waiting for us. Aries was excited too. She says that we should go away more.

The box included five 60g (2.1oz) packages, each focussing on a different area of care and available in three different flavours to satisfy even the fussiest of cats (salmon, chicken and tuna). I was especially interested in the Hairball Control and Digestive Care as Aries has been having problems for several years.

Feline Greenies Smart Bites Package Back
The back of the package contained tons of useful and important information such as; health benefits, ingredients, feeding guidelines, guaranteed analysis and recommended treats per day (based on weight).

Their press release states that: SMARTBITES Treats feature a variety of naturally derived ingredients that have been researched and developed to deliver a specific benefit. Fibreblend formula, found in the Hairball Control formula, is a combination of plant-based fibers that help to minimize hairball formation and promote healthy digestion.

Each package had an easy to open, tear-away strip and was also resealable. Not that it mattered because if Aries had it her way, there wouldn't be any need. Unfortunately for her, the package contained guidelines on how many to feed per day (based on weight). The treats were the perfect size for little hands and not too big for an elderly cat.

Just Right!

While all of the above is great, it doesn't matter much if your picky cat won't eat them.

Needless to say, I couldn't get any pictures of Aries eating the treats because she ate them too quickly. I'm not kidding. She would have eaten the whole bag if I'd let her. Which is funny because the last time Nanna visited, she brought some "other" cat treats (which in itself is interesting considering she doesn't have any cats of her own) and Aries wouldn't eat any of them.

The bonus is that for only $2.99, you can regularly afford to show your pet how much you love them. That and they can be purchased at tons of stores such as; PetSmart, Petco, Many independent pet stores as well as online.

I've Got Great Taste!

A big thanks to Feline Greenies for allowing The Zoo to be one of the first to sample their SMARTBITES. Want to find out more, Follow them on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/Greenies) and Twitter (@GreeniesBrand).
