Another "Method of Neglect" Bites the Dust

Max has (almost) outgrown his favourite toy in the entire world, his "Jolly Jumper" (Thanks Aunt Carrie). Even on the highest setting, his feet can touch the floor (flat).

Besides, our public health nurse said that he shouldn't be in it for more than one hour a day. To which I replied, "One hour a day, try ten. We let him nap in it". You should have seen her face.

Once again, in the court of public opinion, I win first price for "Mother who Neglects her Kids the Most". But in the court of my kids, I win the award for "Best Mother that lets us Break (almost) all the Rules".

I tried to upload a video of him whirling and twirling but I'm having problems.

I Spoke Too Soon

I’m sure it won’t be the last time either.

Max has been crying a lot of real tears today. This morning, I looked in his mouth and to my surprise, saw that tooth “O” (bottom left) was ALSO coming in! In case you're counting, that's TWO teeth in TWO days. Poor kid.

Note that Ed is currently in Ottawa (on business) and will be buying every teething product and remedy that the city has to offer! We'll let you know what works.

Last night we went to our neighbours (The Munroes) for dinner. Max wore his snazzy tie

and Artemis donned her favourite hat.

Happy Birthday Bro!

Max's First Tooth!

I always knew that Max would be the first one to get a tooth. A mother just knows...

Over the past few days, Max has been having a long nap in the morning and afternoon. This was refreshing after 1 month of almost no naps for either of them. We didn't think much of it. Heck, we're tired, why wouldn't they be.

Yesterday, he had a fussy period in the afternoon for almost 2 hours. For the first time, I didn't automatically think "maybe he's teething". Nor was he drooling or chewing on things (anymore than usual).

This morning, while he was chewing on my finger, I felt the little spikes of tooth "P" (bottom, right). It's only just broken through the surface but you can see it. Pictures to follow when it's more visible.

People have made me so terrified of teething. If a bit of fussiness is all we get for having his teeth come in, we'll take it! Only time will tell.

His first tooth, they're growing up so fast, sigh.

Neglect on the Decline

Unfortunately, the "Swings of Neglect" are no longer serving their purpose.

"Miss Contortionist/Escape Artist" can get out of hers (even with the safety straps)

and "Mr See How Smart I Am" always grabs the sides and stops himself from rocking.

You know you're in trouble when your 7 months olds are smarter than the two of you, combined...

We haven't posted in awhile but that doesn't mean that we haven't been thinking of you. Nanna came for a 5 day visit and we got tons of stuff done; eye appointments, doctor appointments, shopping, Friday Night Auction, and Date Night. For the first time in almost one year, Ed and I went out for a nice dinner.

Next up, Uncle Andrew comes to visit for Thanksgiving and Poppa shows up shortly thereafter to help Sarah babysit (while Ed is in Dallas for one week on business).

Keep sending us emails so that we know how you're doing!

Do The Kids have a Future as Interior Decorators?

NOT! While Ed is away, the kids will play.

Yesterday we had a (surprise) visit from the Abuelos. The kids always love to be spoiled by them.

Want a Ride...

... in a laundry basket.

They have so much fun at home with Daddy. I wonder where he comes up with the ideas...

July 30, 2010, Max and Artemis' Baptism

Today was Max and Artemis’ baptism!

We couldn’t have asked for better weather, company or a finer party.

We were blessed to have the ceremony officiated by Poppa’s first cousin; Father Allan Donald Hood. It was held in St. Michael’s Church in Cobourg, Ontario (his church, one hour east of Toronto). Nanna provided the two beautiful flower displays at the church, Tia Ilka videotaped the event and Father Hood wore a special robe (given to him by his grand father, Andrew Hood).

Max’s and Artemis were blessed by their godparents; Abuelo and Marcella and Fred and Abuela. They are so fortunate to have them in their lives.

Father Hood gave a special prayer for Alexander (who had been baptized before his passing). His presence was everywhere.

The attention to detail was incredible!

Abuela handmade (painted) all the gift boxes that included a beautiful glass jewellery box and were adorned with a blessed cross. In addition, each box contained three colours of tissue paper (to symbolize Alexander, Max and Artemis).

The reception was held at "The Mill Restaurant" and it was beautiful.

The napkins were monogrammed,

each place-setting had a customized menu,

the two-tiered cake had two angels on top,

the centre pieces were flowers; two white and one pink,

each of the kids had guest registers that were inscribed with their names.

Nanna and Abuelo gave lovely speeches at the luncheon.

The kids received tons of thoughtful gifts (thank you to everyone!). We were just so honoured to have everyone come and spend their special day with them. In all, there were 22 people, including; Sarah’s friend Kim (from camp) and the kids three great-aunts; Margaret (91), May (93) and Isobel (101! pictured below).

A special thanks to Tia Ilka, Abuela and Abuelo for putting so much time, effort and thought into every detail.

After the baptism, Andrew, Ed and I headed back to Rosina and Eduardo’s place for dinner and to spend some final hours with Marcella before she left for South Korea (at 3 am the next day). Marcella was only with us for a short time (less than 36 hours) but we were so pleased to have her spend such a special day with us.

For those of you that took pictures, could you please mail or email (preferable) them to me. Thanks.

Here are some more fun shots.

Max is on all Fours!

I've been meaning to take some pictures but I misplaced the camera. It's been found but the kids are napping (the reason why I have time to post) so I don't have any pictures of Max up on all fours!

As of yesterday, he's been able to get himself up on all fours. If he follows Artemis' lead, he will be crawling in 2 weeks.

We are enjoying this "down time" (if you can call it that) while it lasts.

Here are some pictures.

All in a Days Work

I'm slowly getting out from under all the laundry and baby gear and working on my posts from the summer.

In the meantime, I thought that I'd brag about how the kids are doing their part by helping Ed out...

Here Max is keeping the machinary clean.

And Artemis personally filed all these papers.

What would we do without these guys!?

Artemis and The Mouse

Artemis' latest toy... a mouse.

She is really mobile and likes to climb up, on and through everything (including her brother, he is not so impressed).

Max is still happy taking in the sights, but not for long...

We're Home!

After a 7 week, 4 day vacation, we're home. It will take us a couple of days to update our journal and then we'll share it with you.

Looking forward to getting in touch.
