I love animals. As a child, I wanted to be a veterinarian when I grew up (this is written in one of my old school books). I never did make it to "vet school", however, my passion for animals remains the same. I especially love "critters", animals that make many people a little (or a lot!) squeamish. I adore mice, rats, chinchillas, hedgehogs...and chameleons. In fact, the first real chameleon I ever saw was at one of my favourite zoos - Little Ray's Reptile Zoo here in Ottawa, Canada. It was at Little Ray's where I got to see a chameleon out of its cage and being hand fed. I found it fascinating to watch. Let me tell you, their tongues move at lightning speed!

If you have ever been to Little Ray's Reptile Zoo, you'll know that one of their regular features is their feeding shows. These feeding shows allow the audience to sit up close and personal with various creatures, learn a bit about them, and watch them being fed. I've seen Little Ray's staff feed snakes, turtles, chameleons... and even alligators! To enhance the "animal experience", Little Ray's even encourages the audience members to touch (and sometimes hold!) the animals. This is where I (the arachnophobe ) got my first chance to hold a tarantula. This is one thing I thought I would NEVER do. You can read more about Little Ray's Reptile Zoo in my previous blog about them here.

Did you know that Little Ray's Reptile Zoo offers some fantastic programs and shows outside and away from their zoo?

One of these programs is their Little Ray's Zoo Camp.

In 2013, Little Ray's Zoo Camps are set to become their best camps ever. Kids attending the interactive camps will get a chance to learn about the care and maintenance of the animals, and so much more.

They will even get to learn about the plants and animals that live in the forests around Ottawa. For those of you living in the Ottawa area, but living far from the Little Ray's Reptile Zoo location, they have added a second camp in conjunction with Dovercourt Rec Centre and the Midway - centrally located in Westboro.

By the way, for those of you living in the Hamilton, Ontario region, you are in luck! Little Ray's Reptile Zoo has just opened it's newest zoo on June 8th in Hamilton. Be sure to visit them! They have an opening month special - $9.50 per person from June 8-July 15th.

What young child wouldn't love to spend a week learning all about great creatures and having the chance to interact with them? This camp sounds pretty fantastic to me! I wonder if Little Ray's would allow this "big kid" to sneak into the camp.

In checking out their website, I found some interesting articles such as this one on "Premature births are 30% higher in cities" and "Prenatal Pollution Exposure Dangerous for Children with Asthma". While neither of these issues effect(ed) The Kids, it makes me sad that there is yet another thing that Mother's and Families need to be worried about.

A few months ago, we reviewed Tiny Love's My Nature Pals Stroll. The versatility, ease of use & quality of this amazing toy made us fall in love with Tiny Love. We knew when we were told we would be getting the Gymini Super Deluxe - Lights & Music to review that Tiny Love wasn't going to disappoint. And we were right. This is an amazing activity gym that any baby would be happy to have. It's recommend for babies ages 0-12 months, so you clearly get your money's worth this this activity center that will last a long time.

It came in a very flat box that shows just how great this is for storage or traveling.. When you aren't using it, the Gymini can easily be folded up so its not in the way by securing the two snaps on the bottom. It literally took me 3 seconds to unsnap and pop the Gymini up to instantly have an activity mat for Baby Skibbles to play on.

Not only is it a great activity center, but it actually plays music and lights up.  It was easy to unscrew the back of the battery compartment, insert batteries (not included), and replace the cover.  There are two different settings for music - classical Mozart and nursery tunes.  Whenever you push on the pink flowers on the mat, music will play and the flowers light up! The first time Baby Skibbles noticed the light she looked up at me and smiled.

There are various textures throughout the mat, aiding in the sensory development of my daughter, which I love.  The elephant's ear actually makes a crinkle noise, while the butterfly and flowers are a raise silk material, the same material that the gym is made from.  The mane of the zebra and tail of the giraffe are made from a corduroy.

There is a large mirror in one corner that builds language, communication and self-image skills as your baby continues to develop.

Baby Skibbles LOVES when you sit her in front of the mirror OR when she rolls over and find herself. She just lays there looking and smiling. It's one of the cutest things I've seen her do so far.

The following five hanging toys are included with the Gymini Deluxe:

• a plush hanging monkey with springy legs to pull on,
• plush bird that spins/hangs from the ring it's attached on that also has crinkly wings,
• a plush elephant that doubles as a jitter pull toy,
• a hard rattle that has beads to spin,
• a plush giraffe that also is a rattle.

The padded mat also comes apart to be machine washable! Tiny Love really has gone above and beyond to make sure that your baby is developing well. Literally the only con I have is that it doesn't come with batteries (only because I am horrible at making sure we have extras in the house).

I love Little Ray's Reptile Zoo. I have visited their Ottawa location four times in the last year or so. My boyfriend introduced me to Little Ray's Reptile Zoo for the first time when we took his son there to see all the critters and creatures. I always have a great time checking out the animals at the zoo.

During our most recent visit in March, we got to see alligators and "Winky" the one-eyed African Bull Frog being fed. We even got to check out a pair of Lynx and a pair of Bald Eagles that had recently been taken in by the zoo.

That's something I love about Little Ray's Reptile Zoo ~ you just never know what you are going to see during your next visit to the zoo!

My most memorable visit to Little Ray's Reptile Zoo? That was the time that I actually held a tarantula (EEK!) in my hand. As someone who is terrified of spiders, I was proud of myself for facing one of my biggest fears. You know what? I have to say...that tarantula was kind of...GULP...cute!
