When Bad Haircuts Happen to Good Dogs

I know how Wordless Wednesday posts are supposed to be "wordless" but sometimes wordless turns into a post about a tasty not your average pulled pork sandwich recipe and how not to toilet training.

Besides, I am my Mothers' daughter after all.

Back to my wordless post.

I'm sure when you look at the picture of Uncle Andrew's dog "Bailey" you'll think to yourself, "Isn't she a cute little poodle!"

And you'd be right except that She is a HE and most importantly...

I Cut Off All My Hair and Gave it to Barbie.

Before I tell you about the time that "I Got Migraines to Avoid Ballet", I realized that I left out the time that "I Cut Off all my Hair and gave it to Barbie".

I was around four and playing at my friend Cindy's. For whatever reason, we were in her bedroom playing with dolls and scissors, alone. Ah, the good old days.

We had several beds for the dolls but no bedding. That wouldn't suffice (yes, we actually thought exactly that). What to do?

We were stumped. There really wasn't anything to use. I mean, we couldn't cut up the doll blanket, NO! Or any of Cindy's clothing, Double NO! And we'd be in serious trouble if we so much as touched her bedding. So, we used the next best thing, hair.

I'm not sure how I got to be the sucker lucky one. It probably has something to do with my severely generous character but my Mother picked up this...

After the "I'm Cheap" Hair Debacle of 2011

After the Hair Debacle of 2011, I swore that I would never cut Max’s hair again.

(In order to build the drama factor, I won’t tell you that I cut his hair once in Mexico with no problems. In fact, he sat there quietly the whole time and afterwards cried because he wanted me to cut more. Enough said).

However, after looking at the Easter pictures, I couldn’t avoid it any longer. You see, this is much more than just cutting a few hairs on Max’s head. This action has historical significance.

It all began in the mid- 70’s. A mother who shall remain unnamed (starts with an “N” and ends with “anna”) thought that it would be cute to grow her son’s hair in a long bob. That was all fine and dandy until one day, their daughter decided to cut all her hair off (don’t worry, I'll bore you with the story later). Suddenly, people thought that the girl was the boy and vice versa. However, that’s not the point of the story because even if said girl hadn’t cut her hair, the boy’s “do” (more like a “don’t) would have still made you think “What was his Mother thinking?”

So, one day, I got up the courage to ask the mother exactly that. Her response, “I thought he looked cute”. Pretty near made me run and grab my scissors because that was exactly what I was thinking (about Max’s hair). If she could have been so delusional misguided, maybe I was too.

So, I did it. What I said I wouldn't do (there's a first time for everything). I cut his hair.

Packing for Mexico and Max's Last Haircut

We're in the final stages of getting packed up for Mexico. Thankfully, we've had some help with babysitting.

Nanna left on Monday. Max had a cold was sad to see her go.

Poppa arrived on Tuesday and we all went to playgroup and had a great day.

On Thursday, I gave Max his first and last haircut. Seriously. He hated the sound of the scissors and wouldn't stay still. The last cut was, THE LAST CUT. And don't think that I'm letting anyone else cut his hair, EVER.

The Mullet and James Bond 007 Marathon #10

For the past few months, people (family and friends) have been asking me "When I'm going to cut Max's hair". One even ventured to ask "What's up with Max's Mullet".

First off, while he has a lot of hair on the top and back of his head, it's pretty sparse/non-existant elsewhere. Secondly, his "laissez-faire" do is the latest rage. Finally, it keeps him warm in the winter. In turn, I'm waiting for the rest of it to grow in, the mullet to fall out of style and spring to come.

In December 1976, Andrew and I had our annual Christmas pictures taken. In the picture, you can see Andrew sporting his own "unique" hairstyle. When I asked my mother "how she could do that to her child", she replied, "We thought he looked cute".
Worked for her.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

P.S. Happy Belated Birthday Andrew.

For the past few days, the kids have been feeding themselves with spoon and forks. Here they are eating homemade applesauce.

Both kids enjoy putting "Doll" into the highchair and giving it a bottle. In reality, they just want to suck on the fake bottle themselves.

I doubt that these pictures need an explanation.

Tonight we watched #10 "The Spy Who Loved Me" (1977).

It was slightly painful to have to watch this movie again (because I knew the ending) but it was better than I thought. There was at least one reference to a previous movie (On Her Majesty's Secret Service). It's fun being able to understand the references. We didn't notice any continuity errors. I absolutely loved the theme song by Carly Simon, "Nobody Does It Better". There were several gadgets (related to a car) but no small ones (like a watch that doubles as a gun). Overall, it was a really well done movie, however, for me, it lacked the "smart" and "funny" factors.

Ed rated it a "7" as did I.

We initially thought that we would have to pause our Marathon until Nanna arrives (Thanksgiving Monday), as we're missing many movies (up until Brosnan), however, Poppa will be coming for a visit on Monday so he will bring up Andrew's DVD collection AND a DVD player. So, we have one night off (tomorrow, Sunday night) and then we're back at it. We can't wait.
