Instead, I thought that I'd deceive you make it really clear that I’m giving something away for free (legal note: nothing in life is free...).
On to the free part.
I am giving away a bunch of coupons from the following companies; A Mother’s Touch, Crest, Breathe Right, Gerber, Celestial Seasonings, Johnson’s, Similac, Slim Fast, McDonald's, Boursin, All Bran, Irish Spring, Affresh, Purina, Palmolive, Arm and Hammer, Oxy Clean, Tide, Disney and more totaling over $50CDN! Note that all the coupons listed do not state "non-transferable" and the stash includes an FPC worth over $7 (yes, I'm that nice)! Note: That I'll continue to add to the stash until April 30.
I could trade them but I'm too lazy so generous. The catch, I'd like you to help me out. Answer a couple of questions and/or show some love.
This giveaway is open to Anyone, however, I will only mail the coupons to a Canadian address. Now's your time to get in good with Aunt Mildred up in the Great White North! There is no mandatory, do whatever you want. Please leave one comment per response/action. Please provide your email address so that I can get in touch with you if you win.
Please sign in to your blog (so that I can follow you) but if you don’t have a blogger blog, feel free to comment as "Anonymous". If you don't want to post your name and/or email on the post, please pick a nickname (how do I know your name isn't Donald Duck) and send me an email so that I can get in touch with you if you win.
1. Who said/what's the origin behind "put your money where your mouth is"? Note that I am fully aware that only the first poor fool responder needs to technically answer the question and the rest of you may/will copy it. I'm fine with that (smile).
2. Why don't giveaway hosts and/or suppliers like to mail to PO boxes?
3. Why am I getting an error message along the lines of "max number of blogs I can follow is 200 (follow + write)" from Networked Blogs? It won't let me follow more than 200 yet I know that other people follow way more. What's the deal?
4. I sent an email to that “Brent Riggs Guy” from Linky Followers because I don't have the original code to add the Linky Widget to my sidebar. I know that upon registration, they clearly state that you’re supposed to keep it and that you can’t get it back but my window was cutoff for some reason (I always have this problem with Linky) so I couldn't copy it. I think that Brian is on a realllllllllllly long coffee break. What can I do?
5. Subscribe to my blog via email or RSS feed (You must verify your subscription, Link in the right hand column).
6. Like my FB page (http://www.facebook.com/JourneysofTheZoo2). Only do this if you want posts about giveaways (although technically, you can just hide all posts from me, which I’m totally fine with because "what you don’t know can’t hurt you").
7. Please email me the simple to follow code/directions to add a Facebook "Like" button on my blog (for my blog and/or a specific page, I'm not picky).
8. Send me a Friend Request (http://www.facebook.com/JourneysofTheZoo2). Only do this if you want posts about giveaways (although technically, you can just hide all posts from me, but you wouldn't want to do that...). P.S. Please let me know if you can't see the "Add Friends" button.
9. Share the giveaway on FB (Link at the bottom of the post, Provide direct link).
10. Follow me on Twitter (@journeyofthezoo, Link in the right hand column).
11. Tweet about the giveaway (Link at the bottom of the post, Provide direct link).
12. Follow my blog on BlogLovin (Link in the right hand column).
13. Follow my blog via GFC (Link in the right hand column).
14. Follow my blog with Google Circles (Link in the right hand column).
15. Share the giveaway on Google+ (Link at the bottom of the post, Provide direct link).
16. Follow my blog via Networked Blogs (Link in the right hand column).
17. Follow me on Pinterest (Link in the right hand column).
P.S. Feel free to comment and not enter yourself in the contest. I know some of you are like that...
The coupons are valid only in Canada and expire from June 30, 2012 to July 31, 2013 so I’ll make the contest run until 11:59EDST on April 30. I will use the "Official Zoo Recognized Method" of randomly selecting the winner (a.k.a. Get Ed to pick a number). The sole person that enters this contest winner will have 72 hours to respond to my email. If they don't respond Ed will pick another number.
Note that The Zoo will be away from April 24-27,2012 so I will not be answering emails during this time. Check out future posts to see where we’re going/where we’ve been.
Sorry for the length of this post. Enter away. All constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated.
Good Luck!

1. "The origin of this idiom is not very clear, however there are two theories and both of them are related to gambling.
ReplyDeleteThe first theory states the phrase has its origin in the pubs of Ireland where people used to play gambling games while they drank, and the second theory says that the phrase has its origin in the world of poker playing.
However, in modern parlance the phrase is used in many different situations to tell someone that if they truly believe in what they are saying, then they should do more than just talk about it."

ReplyDeleteHere's my comment - points 3 and 4 are beyond my non-blogger comprehension. Who? What? #6: you're on facebook? #7: you're on facebook? #8: you're on facebook? #9: you're on facebook? #10: you're on Twitter ?!? Sometimes I feel as though I can't keep up with you - you are way more 'hip' than I am.

ReplyDelete2. they do not like to send because depending on the giveaway they want a physical address as it may not fit in the PO BOX or have to be sent via a courier

ReplyDelete4. I honestly dont know. I didnt save mine either but have it saved on my blog. I would suggest trying tweeting them or see if they have FB...maybe social media will get a quicker response.

I wasn't sure, so I searched and here's what Ted Nesbitt (no, I have no idea who that is :D ) had to say about it:
ReplyDelete"The simplest explanation is that its origin is uncertain. The phrase appears in a few dictionaries of phrases as "being of uncertain origin." The classic book in the field, "Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable," doesn't mention it. It is also omitted from The Phrase Finder at Sheffield University in England.
There are TWO prominent possibilities, however, and both are related to gambling:
1. The phrase is a popular expression in Ireland. It is NOT American in origin. Here is the explanation from a book of sayings from Dublin's pubs:
"Put your money where your mouth is!" = support your boast with evidence.
Another Dublin site offers this: "put your money where your mouth is (if you believe in something, risk your own money)"
Both of these sites suggest that, if you are positive about your opinion, you should be willing to place a bet on it. And that sounds to me like typical barroom/pub talk.
2. The other possibility is that the term comes from the game of poker, and it is closely related and compared to this phrase: "Put up or shut up." "To put" means to "ante up" or to add your money to the pot. Here is a more detailed explanation:
Card playing is a strong possibility for the root because of the first verb, put, which is also used in put your money where your mouth is. To put up is synonymous with ante up, a call to place money in the ante, or "pot." (The pot is called an ante, which means "before," and could allude to the stake that must be placed "before the draw." In 1882, Charles Welsh wrote in his poker guide about the "eldest hand" in the game: "Before the dealer begins to deal the cards, the player next to his left, who is called the ante-man, or age, must deposit in the pool an ante not exceeding one-half the limit previously agreed upon.")
I also tried to find its origin in "The Oxford English Dictionary," but there was no entry in that multi-volume "bible" of the etymological world.
I am placing my "bet" on the gambling origin. If you're sure of something, then back it up with your money, and don't just talk about it. Or, if you've got a good hand in poker, don't just talk about it . . . put your money in the pot. There is no way to prove WHERE it originated, but the Irish are excellent historians. Having been to some of those Dublin pubs myself and having been captivated by the stories of the local "historians" and "masters of folk lore," I think that Ireland is a very strong possibility.
However, that is my "opinion," and I can find no reference source that will confirm Ireland . . . . but the gambling connection is just too close to ignore.
Ted Nesbitt "
Oi, that was long. Sorry about that. :)
DeleteWhy don't giveaway hosts and/or suppliers like to mail to PO boxes?
ReplyDeleteI'm really not sure. I just found this, but not sure if it's a valid response: "Because only USPS can deliver to USPS PO boxes, and many retailers don't ship via USPS. "
But not all PO boxes would be USPS, right? Now I'm just confused. ;)
I'm not sure how others are following more than 200 on NB. Their Official FAQ says:
ReplyDelete"Question:
I'm trying to follow another blog but I got a message telling me that I reached my limit. What's that about?
Answer:
There is no limit on how many followers your blog can get, but if you want to follow many blogs then the limit is 200 total blogs (including blogs you write + blogs you follow). Most people follow less than a 100 blogs because it's really hard to keep up with the updates beyond that. The limit is intended to encourage everyone to follow blogs they actually like as opposed to following anything that comes along."
Sorry for another disappointing answer. :)
4. Hahahah - I've been trying to figure this one out for a while. Now that I am finally read to respond, I have realized you have the Linky Followers widget working. D'oh! :) Hooray that it's working, though! :)
ReplyDeleteI was going to lead you to the "Manage Your Blogs" area where it lists two sets of code - one set for blogger and one for wordpress or other blog hosts that don't allow javascript.
Woohoo! An easy one. I've subbed via RSS as rararomp at gmail dot com.
ReplyDeleteI'm your new FB fan Raegen T. Bring on the giveaway posts! :)
ReplyDeleteFor the Facebook "like" code, this is what worked for me: http://www.itechcolumn.com/2012/02/facebook-like-below-blogger-post-title.html
ReplyDeleteBACK UP your template before you try it, though. :)
I just used the standard button and it seemed to work - see it in action here: contest-for-that.blogspot.com
There are many other tutorials like this one out there that likely work, just make sure to back up that template before editing the HTML of your template. This is simply one that I just tried out msyelf and it seems to have worked nicely. :)
