How to Make Some Extra Money in Mexico

Mexican Bazar Sign
Remember that little misunderstanding that we had with respect to our finances (or lack there of)?

Well, we came up with Plan "C" and thought we’d run it by you…

Bazar a.k.a. Garage Sale!

The saying "if you build it, they will come" is a perfect fit for Mexico. We didn't advertise or put up any signs (except for the dilapidated one pictured above). We got some stuff together that we no longer use or doesn’t fit and opened up shop over the weekend.

And they came...

Mexican Bazar Items
You'd have thought that people were in a candy shop. They were picking up every item and asking us what it was used for, where it was made.

They think that we live differently than they. They're always surprised to hear that we eat tortilla's (one of my favourite foods).

In reality, we probably do live differently than them. I know that there are a lot of things that they do that have me scratching my head (I'll have to start a list).

Potato Masher

They hadn't seen a lot of things like our potato masher (I had to draw a picture because it sold within the first five minutes, probably more for a novelty item than for function).

Speaking of novelty items, I'm pretty sure that WE were what they were coming to see.

The results. After being open for 7 hours over two days, we sold $910MXN worth of stuff (equal to $91CDN more or less).

That's a lot of Pesos!

If anyone has any old frying pans that they no longer want, don’t throw them out!

  2. I have to say, I love that your kids will be able to say "yeah, we had a yard sale in Mexico!" LOL

  3. Wow, the things we take for granted like a potato masher and they had no idea what it was. Really shows the slight cultural divide. At least you made some pesos. Good job!!

  4. That is good to show, we do take a lot for granted:) does it go, my neighbor's garbage is my treasure...not good with these phrase...but see how it works out...enjoy..,sure make a good read!

  5. WOW thats amazing! I would love to share all my donations somewhere like Mexico. They truly honor the smallest of things.

  6. Im glad they liked you stuff and bought it! Enjoy your profits!

  7. Great idea! And it's a great way to meet some people there too, and get to know what real life there is like.
