In, On, Under

I have so many post ideas in the works but never get/have time to get the necessary picture. In addition, I'm hating the pictures that our Canon Elph takes (I'm a Nikon girl). We have a Nikon D70 but it's only seen the light of day a few times since we bought it (in 2005!). I must get Ed to show me how to use it.

Today was day two of no afternoon naps. Except for a little breakdown at 4:30pm (see picture), Max got his second wind and was fine until bedtime (7:30ish). Artemis is a night hawk like her Dad and technically never needs to sleep.

The newest activity is to climb on, in and under anything and everything. So as to minimize their ability to throw themselves off the top of high things, I have removed all boxes, bags, stools, and large toys. Did I mention how smart our kids were. Note that I do not have any pictures of them standing on poorly constructed, about to collapse cardboard boxes (although I thought about it...).

You have no idea how much fun it is to spend half the day under here. Seriously, you should try it. Note that I removed her several times but she just kept going back under so I left her.

Down One

I've seen it coming for a few weeks now and I'm not excited about it. Today it was official... they dropped their afternoon nap.

Luckily, their afternoon nap was the shorter of the two (30-45 minutes) but still. How will I get anything done? When will I nap?

Unfortunately, they didn't change their bedtime (to make it earlier). At least they go down without a fuss.

Sorry no pictures, we were out and about all day. Today was the first time I went out with the two of them shopping, alone. They survived and so did I. Can't wait until Ed gets back from Edmonton on Monday night (he's been gone since Tuesday).

By the way, we had another picnic today. I've been finding Cheerio bits and dust everywhere. May need to re-think that one...

Having a Picnic

On the mornings when we have our act together (or maybe it's when we DON'T have our act together), we let the kids have a picnic. We've experimented and Cherrios directly on the floor clearly win out (we've tried using a plate/container but that doesn't last very long).

Max is now able to say "baby" and "little" and they both love to give hugs/sit in your lap. They're so cute.

McGyver I'm Not

So the kids are still up (it's 10:30pm) and there's no slow down in sight. I must have inadvertently given them caffeine. They are WIRED! Update: They finally crashed at 11pm.

They have learned how to remove all the outlet covers and enjoy spending their days removing anything plugged in, sucking on it and then putting it back in the socket, seriously. Our kids are so smart...

As many of you know, Ed and I don't have a TV and haven't had one for over 10 years. It has nothing to do with any religious, social or cultural convictions, neither of us had one when we met and we just haven't needed one since. We know, we've heard it a million times, we're horrible parents and we're abusing our kids by not letting them watch TV... next.

Now, not having a microwave or toaster, well, that's another story. I'm no Martha Stewart and I rely heavily on these two appliances. Unfortunately, I don't currently have either. We took ours to Mexico and haven't replaced them yet. This would be fine if I was McGyver. Speaking of which, I love including McGyver in my daily conversation whenever I can, Ed gets called it often. ONCE I played Trival Pursuit and I answered McGyver to every answer and I kid you not, it WAS the answer to one of the questions (so was Ronald Reagan but that's another story), something about a show being filmed in Vancouver... SERIOUSLY. Back to me being McGyver, if I was, I could cook up some luxury feast using a wok, rice cooker and pot, but McGyver I'm Not.

We are currently accepting offers of free microwaves and/or toasters (I'm frugal, read: cheap, don't you know). Those offering free TVs need not apply.

What's up with me and graphics? Between you and me, I'm LOVING them!

P.S. Ed just asked what the "paperclip and gum" graphic was about. HELLO!? McGyver can make a bomb from these two everyday household items. Sheesh.

What Monkey?

Artemis spent the whole day with this monkey (a gift from our neighbours) velcroed around her neck. We kept waiting for her (or Max) to pull it off but it never happened. It's like neither of them even noticed that it was there.

We caught a cute picture of them reading a book together.
