Sunday Night at the {Movies Hop}: #StarWars #maythe4thbewithyou

Sunday Night at the Movies with Journeys of The Zoo Logo
Does the phrase; "Luke, I am your Father" said with a deep airy voice have any meaning to you?

What about the names Han Solo, Princess Leia, or R2-D2?

If not, I don't know what to say besides WOW and read on.

In honour of Star Wars Day on May 4 and all our Warsie Followers, we dedicate this weeks Sunday Night at the Movies to the Star Wars trilogy.

A New Hope: A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) is held hostage by the evil Imperial forces in their effort to quell the rebellion against the Galactic Empire. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and captain Han Solo (Harrison Ford) team together with the lovable droid duo, R2-D2 and C-3PO, to rescue the beautiful princess and restore justice in the Galaxy.

Have you ever watched a movie and thought "it's so obvious that [event] is being faked"?

Even with the significant advances in cinematography and the storyline being based on intergalactic travel, the special effects are as believable today as they were in 1977. There's something to be said about keeping things simple... looking.

Of this trilogy, it received a box office ranking of #6 all-time in the USA and #3 all-time highest grossing film (adjusted for inflation).

Question #1: Which films were ranked first and second?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Empire Strikes Back: The Battle Continues...

left

The battle to save the galaxy from the evil Empire rages on. Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia and Chewbacca face attack by the Imperial forces and its AT-AT walkers on the ice planet Hoth. While Han and Leia escape in the Millennium Falcon, Luke travels to Dagobah in search of Yoda. Only with the Jedi Master's help will Luke survive when then dark side of the Force beckons him into an ultimate due with Darth Vadar.

While Ed and I had seen this movie before, neither of us remembered the plot. While it was our least favourite of the three, we enjoyed Yoda and Luke's Jedi Knight training as well as the romance between Han and Princess Leia.

Overall, it was still very impressive for 1980.

Question #2: This is the only movie in the Star Wars series which doesn't have a scene on what planet?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Return of The Jedi: The Empire Falls...

After rescuing Han Solo and Princess Leia from certain doom at the hands of crime lord Jabba the Hutt, Luke rejoins Yoda. Only by completing his Jedi training can he become a true Jedi Knight and defeat Darth Vadar and the dark side of the Force.

In a nutshell, Jabba the Hutt is absolutely disgusting, the Ewoks are adorable and the ending had me teary eyed.

A huge success in my mind.

Question #3: Who says "I have a bad feeling about this"?

RATING. Both Ed and I voted Return of the Jedi as our favourite movie of the trilogy, and agreed that they were all worth seeing again and again. And that's saying a lot.

May the Force be with you...

Question #4: What's your favourite
Star Wars Movie?

Tell your Movie Buff Followers

Yes, I know that today is May 6.

  1. When exactly did you find time to watch 3 movies? ;) I only watch them because I have a mega-crush on Han!

  2. Wow! You were ambitious this weekend! I would say Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope was my favourite Star Wars movie. My husband and I actually commemorated May the fourth by watching the Family Guy parodies of the trilogy (all three). Good laughs.

    Wishing you a lovely week!

  4. I love The Empire Strikes Back because of Hoth and Luke's training! I love all of them actually except not #2 so much. I've only seen #3 once I think.
